It is an honor to be invited to be Guest Speaker at Emerson College’s oldest film club , Frames Per Second (FPS). Emerson, the first university to establish a partnership with Premiere, an international film festival distributor, will be giving its film students the opportunity to screen their winning film to an international audience. Here I am with Mini 🎥 Fest Manager and Deputy Distribution Manager , Sophia Jade Kong , and her partner and best friend , Ben Liu, who flew in from Toronto . Out of all my nicely posed , proper photos , Sophia Jade chose this one for me to post. She bought her gorgeous blue dress from the thrift store and let Ben wear her shirt ! What a sweet, talented, funny, smart couple! While I posted, she said , “Ben, Cynthia writes whole paragraphs!” In trying to decrease the generation gap , I’m learning from GenZers everyday … Social media customs : do not write whole paragraphs, post photos of funny faces, not proper posed ones ….and don’t bother to buy new clothes , there are plenty of pre-worn clothes around if you look . Boomers can learn from GenZers and vice versa .

Lucky thing my speech was a big hit during the snow showers! In my speech , I talked about the history, the reason for, and the importance of having a neighboring Chinatown, the importance of beauty and truth in creating film as an art form with staying power. I showed clips from the making of our Breakwater Studios short doc , LOVE, CHINATOWN, being released by Breakwater Studios in 2025, myself and Gwen Liu are the documentary subjects , directed by Lukas Dong, assisted by Felipe Lopez, and filmed by two time Oscar winning director of photography, Sam Davis, and his team, Adam Swanson and Walter. The FPS invited me to return again next year. It was so much fun, I probably will! Emerson (FPS ) MiniFest Manager , Sophia Jade Kong, did a fantastic job ! It was my pleasure to meet Ben Liu from Toronto , Sophia Jade’s best friend and partner. I also enjoyed meeting Graham who lived in China for 7 years , and is fluent in Mandarin, so he had a nice chat with Sophia Jade. Only I didn’t speak Mandarin! Goodbye until we meet again!
