Voices of Boston’s Chinatown

“Voices of Boston’s Chinatown” is a design project created by Rachel Liang that aims to inspire others to help preserve culture within Chinatown amidst its housing crisis. The project consists of zines that illustrate interviews with Chinatown residents and activists. The project showcases these individuals’ fond memories in Chinatown as well as their drive to protect it.

I love how my grassroots stories inspire a new generation, and in their talented, tech-savvy hands, metamorphose into new creative art forms. This project by Missouri native, Rachel Liang, who read, interviewed, and recorded me after the “Places of Assembly” opening event in Fall, 2021. Clever and hilarious, her zines reach a broad and diverse audience. I got a kick out of mine. It made me chuckle.

I was interviewed and recorded by Rachel Liang, photographed on the left. I met with these students after connecting at Ang Li’s opening event for her “Place of Assembly: Reimagining Stoop Culture in Boston Chinatown  Project, “ which  Mayor Michelle Wu also attended.
